Florida Special Elections in Six Days
To win one or both congressional seats in Florida would be miraculous. But even a narrow loss to Republicans in two very red districts would send a message.
There are two special elections in Florida in six days. They're being held to replace Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz in Florida Congressional districts 1 and 6. The Democratic candidates are Gay Valimont and Joshua Weil. Phone banking is ongoing and will continue up until election day. Both candidates would greatly appreciate your help.
This is an election that isn't so much about political policy differences, but about the well being of millions of Americans, both Democrats and Republicans. This is a vote to provide some congressional oversight to Elon Musk and his DOGE team. They have been acting like homeless urchins running amok through the halls of the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Education, and other government agencies.
Both of these candidates are running in red districts. I would like to see a Democratic win in both, as that would slow the destructive actions of the errant children who have been loosed on critical government programs. An outright win would be miraculous. However, any movement of the needle should still be considered a win of sorts. I've heard that close only counts in the game of horseshoes, but coming close in either of these two races would send a cautionary message to Republicans who will be running in 2026. We need to take every opportunity to let Republican representatives know that we aren't happy campers. We must let them know that they need to turn this Ship of State around. We urgently need to make our voices heard.
Trump voters are beginning to see their mistake. Some of them are beginning to realize that they apparently voted for Elon Musk as well and are greatly displeased. We need to keep pointing out that Musk and his hackers are just getting started.
Last week Howard Lutnick stated the following: "Let's say Social Security doesn't send out their checks this month. My mother-in-law who's 94, she wouldn't call and complain. She just wouldn't. She'd think something got messed up, and she'll get it next month. A fraudster always makes the loudest noise, screaming, yelling and complaining."
These nepo babies and silver spoon babies are completely out of touch with reality. Millions of Americans depend on their Social Security checks. They can't afford to miss receiving a payment. If there's a missed payment, there will be a hue and cry from people who can't afford a single month's loss. Lutnick, priveleged as he is, has no clue. He should refrain from speaking for those he will never understand.
On another front, a ten year old American citizen who had undergone brain surgery last year was deported. Her parents were undocumented immigrants, and were driving their child to Houston for an emergency medical checkup. They were arrested at a CBP checkpoint and later deported. Elon Musk has made the statement that empathy is the fundamental weakness of Western civilization. I don't recall Donald Trump showing empathy either. It seems that cruelty is their point.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has had funding cuts, job descriptions eliminated and staff laid off because of DOGE cuts. These are our heroes. They laid it all on the line to protect and serve our country. Some of them have PTSD. Others had serious physical injuries. They defended us from foreign enemies. It's our turn to defend them from those who want to turn our government into their private piggy bank. To any veteran reading this, thank you for your service. To all politicians, defend our veterans.
Matthew Isbell, an election data analyst, said of the Florida special elections, "I’m looking at 10 points, 15 points, even 20. These are very red seats, so anything that’s not 30 points is pretty notable." Like I said, any movement of the percentages is a small victory.
We take whatever opportunities are available and do what we can.

Speaking as someone in the deep red district of PA that just voted a Democrat to the State Senate, I can tell you that miracles DO happen.
