Dairy Farmer Depends on Migrant Labor and Still Voted for Trump Plus Other News
It is hard to believe that there were voters who ignored the good advice, "believe them when they tell you what they're going to do." Yet here we are. Also, Bluesky rocks.
What would you say to someone who depends on migrant workers to run their business, yet still voted for Donald Trump? Here's a YouTube video of such a person, a South Dakota dairy farmer who did just that. He doesn't know how many of his employees, if any, are undocumented. He hopes that Trump and Kristi Noem, Trump's pick to head the Department of Homeland Security, won't follow through on his promise of mass deportations. You can't make this stuff up.
Tom Holman, the incoming border czar, has said that Trump chose him to run the biggest deportation operation the country has ever seen. For all our sakes, I hope the South Dakota farmer is the one who has it right.
However, I wouldn't trust that to be etched in stone. Be prepared, just in case.
Marc Elias updated the status of the North Carolina Supreme Court election. Allison Riggs won in the third vote count. Again. However, her opponent, Jefferson Griffin is trying to have 60,000 ballots rejected, including a number of overseas ballots. The following is from an article in Mother Jones. “During a hearing before the state board of elections on Wednesday, Griffin’s attorney couldn’t point to a single example of an ineligible voter on their challenge list.” Paul Weyrich made a statement in 1980 about not wanting everybody to vote. Republican candidates keep coming back to that and trying to choose their voters.
Networking will be essential to defending our democratic republic for the next four years. I'm seeing a lot of that on Substack. You’ll probably want to grow your network even more. Interact, comment, and restack.
A link to a shorter version of the South Dakota farmer's story was posted on Bluesky, as was the link to the Marc Elias clip. Bluesky is growing by leaps and bounds. If you're still on Twitter and not on Bluesky yet, you might want to join.

Just shaking my head. How can this farmer, who relies on migrant labor, just hope that don-old didn’t mean what he said about mass deportation.
They were blinded by ignorance. Just as republicans and the Church like it.
