Coping, One Step at a Time
There will be a time of mourning for those of us who supported Kamala Harris. Her loss is our loss. We should take time to care for our health. When we are finished, these United States still need us.
This will not be what I wanted to write. The outcome of the election was not what I had hoped it would be. I know there are a lot of people who feel the same way. I'm seeing headlines about when Kamala Harris will give her concession speech, not something for which I had planned.
However, as bad and hopeless as it seems right now, the sun will keep shining. The seasons will follow each other. And, after a time for grieving, we still have causes to champion. We'll keep putting one foot in front of the other because it's what we do.
Climate change is real, and we must do everything in our power to preserve a livable world for our heirs. We need to work for ranked choice voting
During my grandfather's lifetime, if your neighbors lost their house in a natural disaster, the community got together and built a new one. That was Christian compassion. We need to bring that quality back into our national discourse instead of everyone for themselves.
There will be a time of mourning for what could have been. Take the time and self care you need to get through it. Then we can again focus on helping each other and helping those less fortunate. We will again fight the good fight. We must, because that's what good people do.
Thank you for reading this. If anyone needs to talk through this, please leave a comment. Check my notes for a restack from Jack Hopkins that might help you cope. And there are also restacks from Walter Rhein and Scott Dworkin.
Robert, You are indeed a man of wisdom. You are giving good guidance where guidance is much needed, but is hard to accept. I hope your life goes well through this crisis and the years which will follow. You remind me much of a friend I once had, who showed similar wisdom. Thank you!
The outcome of this election shows that lies and mistruths were able to be peddled as truth and fact. The media has done a grave disservice to our nation. Just as the the big Bells were broken up as a monopoly, it is long past time media behemoths owned and directed by billionaires and those whose first allegiance is not to America had shared the same fate. But alas, that would never be the case. And had the FCC and FTC held political advertising to the same standard as selling a used car peddled as new - we'd be in a different place. But the bell has tolled, recess is over - time to pay the piper. I had always wondered why Merrick Garland had been left in place, as his delays were inexcusable, his focus unimaginable. However, I am sad for this nation, and even those who were 'hoodwinked' by the entertainment channels posing as legitimate media - it is those who will in time feel betrayed the most. This outcome will be a case of buyers remorse even though it's too late. But perhaps the whole purpose of this election - was to eventually wake Americans up - to galvanize them together, to fight against real and imminent oppression for once. https://thelegaledition.substack.com/p/where-does-america-go-from-here
